My Favorite Things, pt 1

One of my favorite things about Christmas (and the holiday season in general) is sending out holiday cards. I usually mail about 150 and give out an additional 25 at work. This may seem a bit excessive to some, but as it's the only holiday activity I really participate in, I don't mind the expense. In return, I get cards from all the lovely people in my life. Some have photos—love those! Some have letters and past year updates—what a great way to keep up on what's happening in other people's lives! I know the 'holiday letter' is sometimes an object of scorn, but I really read and enjoy all the ones I get. If I've met you and can get your address, you'll probably get a card from me. I just love the thought of someone being excited to open their mailbox because the surprise of cards awaits them, rather than just bills and junk mail. I have one friend who said my card was one of only TWO that she received this year. How sad would it make me if I had cut her

Solstice

Well, it's definitely obvious that we are sneaking up on the Solstice, as it is both dark in the morning when I come to work and dark in the afternoon when I leave work. There's been a bit of brittle sunlight today, although not the kind that warms anything up. And there were little teeny-weeny balls of snow on my car this morning, the 'flakes' that aren't really flake-shaped. I guess winter is officially here. One of the (only) things I love about winter is the chance to eat chili and soup. Soup is probably one of my favorite things, but since I tend to lean towards hearty soups, they aren't really a summertime dinner for me. And yes, there are cold soups. These are blasphemy--soup is meant to be eaten hot. *big grin* I'm also partial to chili, which I had for dinner on Sunday. I prefer my chili medium-hot, over crushed white corn tortilla chips, with cheddar cheese on top. Of course, I've eaten it other ways (with cornbread is usually a close second ch

Greetings!

I've thought about starting up a blog for a while now, but for a variety of reasons I just hadn't done it yet. And then things sort of came together and boom, here we are. So, I thought about making this a 'food blog', but then I reconsidered. Because you know what? That would be the most boring thing people would (never) read. I recently realized that I have, possibly, the most pedestrian taste in food ever. Other people talk about all the fancy stuff they have eaten or want to eat and I'm sitting there thinking 'can I have a cheeseburger?' And frankly, admitting to everyone just how many times I default to peanut butter toast for dinner would just be embarrassing. And then I thought, hmm, crafts? Nope. Photography? Nah. Travel? Nein. But I could probably write a little dab about any one of those topics. And that might be fun, so I think I'll just see where it takes itself, shall I?
